Project in a Box

UC San Diego’s Premier Engineering Project Development Organization

We make projects that impact student engineering education. Our mission is to provide hands-on projects for students and empower them with skills to thrive in a globally competitive workforce. Join us today to begin your project-building experience.

Our Outreach Project Kits

Currently, most of our collaborations are local to San Diego since most of our kits rely on in-house manufacturing and packing. We are open to sharing our project materials for educational purposes; please contact us if you are interested. These projects mainly target middle school and high school students, and typical kits take about three hours to complete from beginning to end with tutor assistance.

Intro to Arduino

An introduction to basic electronics, programming, and hardware. Students learn to build basic circuits and program in Arduino C.

Magic8 Cube

Students program a Arduino Nano board to control a vibration sensor and OLED to display your fortune!

Ladabot

A students' best friend. Students program a walking robot by programming an Arduino Nano to control servos and read data from an ultrasonic sensor.

Ardubot

A wall avoiding robot that uses ultrasonic sensor to navigate and avoid surrounding walls and objects.

Candy Sorter

A candy sorting machine! Sort candy by programming a color sensor and servo to correspond color to position in the servo.

Photo-Theremin

Make your very own electronic theremin! Students build a circuit using capacitors, photoresistors, buzzer, and chip to create theremin Sci-Fi noises!

Bitabot

Precursor to candy sorting machine. Fargbot sorts lego colors by indicating through its robot eyes the color of the lego that's placed in its mouth!

Linjebot

A line following robot that uses basic PID controls to follow a line. Students tune their controller error to minimize deviation away from the line and program their robot to follow the track!
